R&D PROJECT
development of a new technology
The project was carried out under contract with the European Space Agency (ESA), in close collaboration with Astronika Sp. z o.o. and Zortrax S.A.
Our team was responsible for developing a manufacturing technology for lightweight PEEK-metal composites intended for use in small satellites operating in space. The goal was to create components offering high strength and resistance to extreme space conditions, while significantly reducing weight compared to conventional metal parts.
Project goal
Development of a manufacturing technology for lightweight, high-strength components for space applications.
Project results
- developed an innovative technology combining 3D printing with metal electroplating, enabling selective application of coatings or reinforcements only where needed
- enabled manufacturing of complex-shaped components with zero material waste
- achieved significant weight reduction compared to equivalent all-metal parts
- reduced production costs compared to traditional machining
